Local Sports

Rathert Stadium is a restored 1930s stadium, called "one of the finest in Kansas", and is home to the Junction City Blue Jays high school football team.

Kansas State University makes up the majority of spectator sports in Manhattan; locals and students are very involved with the football games. K-State Wildcats enjoy an old rivalry with University of Kansas Jayhawks.

Hunting: Hunting is regulated by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism. Kansas enjoys a wide variety of game that differs slightly depending on location within the state and the east experiences a generally wetter climate than the western part. Game includes pheasant, quail, whitetail and mule deer, turkey, rabbit, squirrel, and the highest concentration of prairie chicken in the country. Birds include doves, rails, snipe, many species of duck and teals, geese, sandhill crane, woodcock, and crows. Special permits are required for the less common antelope, elk and prairie rattlesnake. A Kansas Furbearer Education course is required for the following: badger, bobcat, beaver, gray fox, red fox, swift fox, mink, muskrat, opossum, raccoon, striped skunk, and weasel.

Fishing: Thanks to Kansas' many reservoirs, streams and ponds, fishing is quite popular and can be successful. Species vary by location and include crappie, white bass, largemouth bass, channel catfish, walleye, and wipers.
